Quake Live Game Review

Introduction

Quake is a first person shooter game which consists of killing anything that will come in the way of the player and will result in them losing. The game consists of rules that the player must abide by when playing. As well as that the player has a goal of collecting weapons, armour, and health and also power up that would increase their chances of succeeding.

Story

The story of the game is quite simple as it is structured in a way that players would be using a map as a guide also having to run around with weapons to kill anything that comes in the way. The game doesn’t consist of levels; it however does record the player’s kills/deaths, wins/losses. By having a variety of weapons that the player can choose from, different types of missions as well as having options whether to play with multi players or not makes it that more interesting for the players. This means that there is a higher chance for players to be drawn into the game as the game comes with a wide range of options that best suit the player as well as it having an option to customize/change their avatar, which allows the user to relate to the protagonist.

Game play

Quake Live is a fast paced action game play which meant players were drawn into the game more, resulting them to being immersed as the players would co so fixated to the game that they would only result to them losing track of time. However the game could be improved a lot more making it better for the player, as there were things like the quality of the graphics that could have been improved to make it more eye catching as the quality was just dull and simple.  Adding to that the controllers to the game was rather complicated and the weapons given at the start of the game wasn’t so useful, for example he machine gun required constant shooting just to kill, as well as that players had to quickly change weapons many times during the game making it harder for players to get comfortable to use certain weapons.

Graphics

The graphic of the game is rather dull and simple, not only that but the graphics have also been used repeatedly in many areas making it predictable and not so eye catching. During the close ups the game is much more clear and has a better quality making it easier for the player to feel at ease and continue playing the game without facing any difficulties in terms of the visual aspects of the game.

Sound

the sound in the game does in some ways help to actually immerse players in the game environment, as it captures their attention a lot more as it helps bring the experience to a whole new level for the players making them feel like they are actually in the game and actually participating so in other words it helps create an artificial reality for the players.

Conclusion

In conclusion I think the game overall is quite fun to play with and it can easily get players drawn into the game due to its missions that it involves, as well as the format of the game and not forgetting the wide range of options it gives to the players. Also the fact that it allows players to customize their own avatar gives the game a higher advantage of getting more users to play as most people love to customize as it gives them a bit of power. However, it would be better if the games graphical aspects were improved as well as quality wise, adding to that if the controls to the game was made much more easy and having clear and understandable instructions would have been a lot more better making it easy for players especially beginners.

Summary

Quake is quite simple and a fair game making it easier for immerse players to be captured into the game.

The structure/format of the game is very repetitive.

Quake review

Introduction
Quake is a first person action game set in a 3-D world; the player is able to view all elements of the game from any angle simply by using the annotation keys or the mouse. The real-time animations are also highly sophisticated showing effects like explosions and flying particles as well as hidden objects that shoot out from hidden compartments. There are rules in the game that the player must follow in order to succeed. In order to stay alive the player must collect weapons and armour as well as keeping their health and power up to survive.
Story
The game is structured in a way which is easy to understand by the user. Before playing the user has an option of selecting the help function which will show them all the controls and how to use them. The player must go through the game killing all the monsters or opponents that get in the way. The kills and wins are recorded on the bottom of the screen. There are no levels but the player must go through doors and find their way around alert of anything hidden or coming towards them. The player has the option of playing single or multi player, some players may feel more comfortable playing single because they feel they are not as advanced as other player. Furthermore the player is able customize their avatar to best suit their preference and relate to the protagonist.

Game play
Quake is a fast paced 3-D game which allows the user to attack and get attacked from any angle therefore the player must aim their weapon carefully and accurately to shoot the target. The player can choose to use the keyboard or mouse though the mouse is much preferred as it is easier and quicker to use underwater or in deathmatch situations. The game can be played single or multi-player, it is highly addictive and players can find themselves loosing track of time.

There’s simply one way to deal with the opponents: with violence. Quake gives the player weapons like shotguns, grenades, nail guns, lightning guns and rock launchers although beginners will not receive all these weapons until further along the game. A disadvantage is that the player had to quickly change weapons and in panic situations will result to them dying; this could take a lot of time getting comfortable with and may frustrate the players.

Graphics
The graphics of this game are quite dull and old in comparison to modern computer games. The poor graphics can cause irritation to the eyes and the colours are also very dull and repetitive.  However the close ups are much clearer and the monster animations look convincing enough to want to kill!

Sound
The sound effects are quite eerie and dark further capturing the player in the game. Quakes sound helps to bring the player into the game and make them feel as if they are actually there. It helps to create artificial reality and grabs the player’s attention.

Conclusion
In conclusion I found this game very addictive and fun to play once you got the hand of it. It raises a sense of curiosity to the player wanting to know what’s next or where you could end up. It’s exciting to use the different weapons and to choose which better suits you. Furthermore I really liked the option it gave the players of being able to customize their own avatar which makes them feel like they have more control. However I found the graphics quite distracting and they could be improved. The instructions were also hard to understand and could be made clearer.

Summary
Quack is a fun and simple game which allows the player to get lost in capturing you through its halls with its ominous atmosphere and complementary soundtrack

Repetitive graphics and colours

GAME REVIEW – QUAKE FLASH

Overall: 5.5 out of 10

Introduction

Quake is a first person shooter game and the first version of the Quake series game. The latest game of the Quake series was Quake live which has better graphics and gameplay that compared to the other versions of Quake series. The game was developed by id software in 1996. The story line of the game is similar to the previous id’s game called Doom.
Story
The story for the game is laid out well as the unnamed protagonist sent to the portal to complete the mission which was to stop the enemy called Quake. The game has four episodes which consists around 28 levels. The main goal of the game is to survive the level by killing an opponent and to reach the exit gate to go to the next level of the game. When completing the quest, the player can upgrade weapons, collect power-ups and so on.

Game play

The game doesn't have different play styles however it works fine. The controls are bit complicated but it gives options to change the controls depending on the user. The player can play either single player or multiplayer. In single player, the user search for the exit gate to reach the next level by facing monsters and finding some secret areas along the way. To find the secret areas, you need to look for walls that have something different to the normal walls then you have to shoot it. To shoot the opponent, User presses the control button and to open the certain doors, the user needs a key to open the doors. Once, the player reaches the exit, the player move on to the next level. If the player killed by opponent, then the player starts the game from scratch.
Graphics
The graphic of the game is not eye catching and the graphics are bit repetitive such as walls, doors etc. The colours are dull and the graphics are not high quality. Sometimes, it may hurt your eyes to spot the opponent due to the poor graphics. It is very hard to find difference between the walls and other object due to the texture of the game is same.  The game looks fine during the close up and long distance. The graphic is not detailed however this game gives adequate graphics to succeed the game and to satisfy the user’s expectations.
Sound
The sound helps the success of the game. In some cases sound effect can really help to immerse the player in the games environment and truly bring the experience to a new level. For example, the sounds of gunfire shatter. The sound can also distract the user from playing the game and the background sound effect can be a bit irritation for some users.

Conclusion

Overall, the game is good and fun to play however, the graphic of the game is not great. The colour scheme they have used for texts and images is not eye catching; it looks boring and simple. It doesn't allow the user to customize characters and so on. However, it does offer the player to use different types of weapons to kill varies types of monsters. The brightness of the game is dull and dark however, it does give a feel of haunted place where you can kill zombies and it creates a scary kind of atmosphere that leads the user to fight for their life in order to survive.

Summary

Pros: It is fun to play and simple. It has a good story line.
Cons: The graphic of the game and some of the sound effects could be improved. There is lack of colour schemes and rewards.

Quake - Westy

Quake is a shoot ‘em up game in which you have to escape your way out of each level whilst defeating all the monsters within each level. Each level is made a more difficult through having different missions to complete which allow you to access the next level and by having different enemies to kill which have more degrees of difficulty to defeat them.

The game is a first person play style that is based upon a horror environment, similarly to doom; the game is set in post-nuclear war type of environment and had lots of extras along the way such as new weapons more armour and health and the chance to gain more bullets for your weapon.

The game does not have a story which could have been added to make the gaming experience more enjoyable for example the story could have explained why there are monsters or how you got into the position of escaping etc. The gameplay suits the style of the game to a good degree as the gamer would not want to see the character that they are controlling thus allowing the gamer to put themselves into the characters position improving the gaming experience. The controls are easy to use as they have a simple layout that isn’t squished together on the keyboard. The controls to move are the arrow keys, to shoot is the control button and the jump button is the space button spacing out the hands on the keyboard to maximise the easiness of the game. The textures of the game are very basic; the style of game tends to make the environments in the game a dark element. Most of the colours are pixelated and this can be seen in the game for example the different parts of the wall are made of different coloured pixels. There is no background music to the game however there are sound effects for the monster when they have been encountered and also sound effects when the guns is being shot and when you jump in the game there is a sound effect for the character. The sound effects are only basic and maybe if there we some for when a door opens in the game, or a sound effect for when the character has picked up some bullets there should be a gun being loaded for example, these sound effects could improve the gameplay. Background music in a game like this would not be necessity however it could be used to build up the tension of the player when playing the game.

In conclusion I think that quake is a good game in the aspect that the game has a clear structure to it and can be easily played. The graphics and sounds are very basic, the graphics are fit for purpose as they do not have to overly complicated however the game could be suited for some more sound effects and simple background music just to maximise the gameplay. Overall the game keeps the player entertained all the way through as the levels get bigger and there more missions to complete and more enemies to defeat which, along with extras i.e. different guns, more bullets etc. makes the game more interesting and keeps the player satisfied as it is not the same all the time.

Quake Review:

Quake is the type of game which is a level design shoot game. The function of the game is to kill creature which is represented in 3D shape animated zombies and also beasts. The environment of the game is set in a dark tomb the atmosphere is dark so it is setting an ancient type of environment. While the user is playing the game they have a certain type of music to set the atmosphere making the game even more dramatic. When the player is playing they are able to shoot the zombies and the creature which are featured in the game, when the player navigates around the game they are able to pick up their life and also bullets. They also receive rewards like which would improve their game play.

The story of the game quake goes up in level doing my own research I found out that they are 8 levels to complete however at level 7 there is a stage where you have to complete for the player to be able to continue onto level 8. With the first level (Level 1) this part of the game was were the player was getting to know the game and what the game had to offer with the features and what the player had to do so they were able to progress onto the next level. The game Quake has been designed as a level designer this is when the design has been assigned missions. The game setting varies in opinion some would say it is environmental, since it’s set in a tomb full of 3D animation of zombies.

When actually playing the game it was hard at the beginning since you had to figure out how to start the game. As the user starts the game you have come to terms of all the different functions. After you come to term with what you have to do the game is more like and adventure having to find out where to go and find out what the mission is. Completing the level was hard in some case the more you went into the game. The game featured a physical approach the reason why is the player of the game is playing there is no character so the player itself was playing the game so the user felt like they were physical in the game. Throughout the game there is loads of level to complete up to level 7 or 8. You have to be able to complete the different stages/ missions.

The graphics which were featured in the game quake was very pixel. One of the criticisms with the graphics (user interface) is that when starting the game there was no guide of how you have to play the game. There was no instruction like what the player had to do with the keyboard. Also the start-up menu was only available when you pressed a certain button on the keyboard with was ESC. It wasn't user friendly like having the instruction when the game started however it might be part of the game to give that type of suspicion.
The graphics was 3D however it wasn't a high quality graphic or even a high resolution.
Overall the graphics were poor quality and it was hard to play the game.

The sound within the game had a scary feel to it like the sounds when walking around isn't as strong as when you approach the creatures such as the zombies. Also when navigating around the game the player made sounds such as they come to certain areas of the game. However there was hardly any sound during the game.

There is an option of multiplayer you able to play against each other. Using the multiplayer you was able to interact more. I found that using multiplayer was a fun way to interact with the game.

The trophies system on Quake works on the base of top-up on life and also bullets. Basically the trophy system is the completion of the mission and level. For the user who is playing the game will feel as if completing the mission and level will be an achievement.

In quake i found that the game play isn't as interesting because sometime it is hard to find your way around the game. However some people might disagree saying that the game purpose is to find out what game is all about.

I found the game not as interesting the graphics wasn't at a high resolution this made the game play not interesting.

Quake Flash Game Review

Introduction
Quake is a video game which consists of the player shooting. IT was developed and released by ID software in 1996 and it was the most popular game to be released. Quake is a single player game however users can play multiplayer. The genre of this game is horror as users will need to face monsters and other challenges. Quake was one of the first person shooter game to be developed and was unique.

Story
The game story is for the user to play a character which has been sent into a portal to stop the enemy called Quake. The government have been experimenting with teleportation technology called Slipgates. Quake has their own teleportation system and uses it to send squads to the ‘real world’. A commander which is involved in the project contacts the character of Quake to find and stop Quake with weapons etc.  The character is the n left to survive on his own and he goes out and seeks Quake on his own.

Gameplay
Users can play as a single player or a multiplayer. In the single play, the user can navigate around and explore. The user must pass each level by defeating monsters on the way. They can also find secret areas. To pass the closed doors users must collect keys or press buttons in order to open the doors. Once the user has done this they have access on to the next level. At the start of the game there are three pathways which are easy medium and hard. The controls of the game are simple as spacebar is to jump, the arrow keys to move in the right direction and Ctrl to shoot. The play styles are the same for each pathway. There are no glitches however there are sometimes unresponsiveness. For example the user may hold the Ctrl button to shoot and once they let go the game may still carry on shooting and the user must again press the Ctrl button to stop shooting.

Graphics
The graphics of Quake show that it is one of the first games to be developed in its kind. The user interface is easy to understand however there are no labels. The texture of the game shows that the walls and the ground look the game, so the user can be confused of where to go. The game has not been designed well visually. The sound of the game has a theme to it and other sound effects. For example when the character jumps or is being attacked. The game does not look well designed close up and from a distance due to the fact that the colours seem to be the same. Some of the graphics have been used repeatedly, such as rocks and walls.

Sound
The sound of the game has fast pace music and with the sound effects; however some users may find it difficult to win as they are distracted. However the theme music can help users to reach the next level as it brings out different experiences. Depending on the user, sounds can either help motivate them or cause them to lose.

Multiplayer
Quake allows users to play multiplayer online against other users. This allows users who are able to take on other users online. The community is active however they are more likely to be experienced and can cause new players to be defeated easily. New users may feel bored after a while as the process is repetitive. Users can play multiplayer for a while depending on how addictive they are to it.

Trophies
As there are three pathways for users to follow once they start the game, they can choose their difficulty settings. Quake does not allow users to win trophies and this can demotivate users to play the game as they are not receiving anything for their success.

Conclusion
In conclusion the story of the game is well written and allows users to put themselves in the situation. The game design is not that clear however users will get used to it once they start to play it a few times. The game is very interactive as the controls are easy. The advantage of the game is that it allows users to edit the controls to their preference. The disadvantage of the game is that the background lighting is too dark and the instructions do not help users.

Summary
The good point of this game is that it allows users to play online against other players. The bad point of this game is that the graphics are not that clear and the walls are the same colour as the floor.
