Quake Review

Quake

Introduction:

Quake is a shooting video game designed to play as a single and a multiplayer, which was released in 1966 as a first person shooting game including many levels and challenges for the player. As this was a first person game you couldn’t see the person as you was only able to see the weapon.

Story:

The story of the game was based on an unnamed protagonist that was created to stop the enemy quake. The character has to face new challenges in four episodes without dying and reaching to the exit point to move on to the next level. In the four episodes there are 28 separate levels in which the player has to find a slip gate at each beginning level. The objective of the game is to survive throughout all the challenges and move on to the next levels to complete the game.

Gameplay:

There are two gameplays in this game as you can play as a single player or a multiplayer. In the single player you have to discover and get to the exit to move on to the next level. The player finds many challenges in these levels such as shooting monsters and other creatures. Before starting the game the player could choose the difficulty from easy, medium or hard. Choosing from these difficulties depends on what gameplay to play from as they will have different challenges.  The game is divided in four episodes which have 8 levels in each. The controls of the game are very simple as you can use the arrows on the keyboard to move forward and back, space to jump and the control key to shoot. Once the player completes each episode they will return to the start of the level where they will find the new episode which will start the player from scratch.

Graphics:

The graphics used in the game are very basic. As the game only uses objects like weapons, walls, doors. All these are repeated in all the levels throughout the game so nothing has been changed. There are no advanced graphics as in some parts of the game it could get very dark so the player will find it difficult to play. In this case the game could have more colours that will brighten up the game. As you can see in the picture not many colours are used however the graphics does look very hi tech.

Sound:

The sound of the game is very good as it changes the music and the sound effects in each level or each time you do a different activity. The sound also catches the player’s attention as it makes the player feel that they are actually in the game.

Conclusion:

I think the game is very good and it had a decent story behind it. However the game could be improved in many ways as it could have more challenges that the player faces. Also the graphics of the game is very poor so this could be improved as well by adding more colours and textures. The sound of the game goes with the story of the game as the effects and the noises when you kill the monsters sound real. The game also has a multiplayer option which also Is a good option as it allows more than two players compete against each other and play the game with new challenges.

Summary:

Overall I think the game is brilliant, it has many good and bad points as the game has a good sound effect and story however has poor graphics. But on the whole the game is very good as it will not bore the players.
