Temple run

Introduction:

Temple run is an endless action running game that was based in imangi studios. The player steals an idol from a temple and gets chased by couple of monkeys. The player has to travel through a tough way to escape. This game is only introduced on smartphones and android including tablets.

Story:

The story of the game is based on one character that steals an idol from the temple and has to escape before getting caught by the monkeys that are chasing him. The player has to face tough challenges and a tough surface to run on. The player of the game than controls the character in the game and as the character is running from the temple this is why the game was called temple run.

Gameplay:

Temple run the object of this game is to run as far as you can as it is an endless running game. The player faces tough challenges but still has to hold on to get the best score they can. While running the player faces random obstacles in which they either have to slide or jump. The player can also collect coins there are two types of coins which are 2 points coin or three points coin they can also win trophies if they collect certain amount of points. There are also other things that gives the player and advantage to get the best score which are collecting diamonds which gives you another chance if you die so you can carry on from the same place you died from. There are also different players in the game that you can unlock with the coins that you have collected. This game is a touchscreen game that can be accessed on I phones/ smartphones. This is because it is only compatible as it works well with these devices.

Graphics:
The graphics used in this game are to give it a pitch of its story the temple. It uses the colour gold and other dull colours. I think that the graphics of the game could improve ads they can add more bright colours however the colours used to work well with the story as it makes it look more serious and were the game is based. The game is 2d rather than 3d as it is restricted because of the devices that it is compatible with.

Sound:
I think the sound of the game can improve as it only has a background noise of water and makes a sound when the character jumps. So they can add more sound to it, more noises when the character comes up to the random obstacles. Overall I think the sound can be improved however the sound that is currently used go with the game.
Conclusion:
Overall I think that temple run is a very good game even though it is simple and doesn’t have much action to it. It’s an addictive game I would say because as once the player plays it they would want to keep on playing it to beat their previous score. The sound and the graphics is not too good and can be improved however on the whole temple run is a fantastic endless running game.
Summary:
As I mentioned temple run is a very good game it could have more adventure into it and add more features such as multiplayer. There could also be a better story behind it however it does have many advantages such as it’s a simple game and easy to play. It could get very difficult and challenges as you progress while playing the game. Overall this game could be improved however I wouldn’t call it a bad game.

Limbo Review

Introduction:

Limbo is a video game which was released in 2010. The game is 2D and is deliberately designed to fail the player before they find the correct solution. It uses black and white tones and effects to make it look like a horror game. This game is very different to other puzzle games which make this unique.

Story:

The story of the game is that the unnamed boy searches for his missing sister through various dangerous challenges. The story of the game is set out that the player fails the task before passing it. The game was created very simply so that the player would have to learn the game itself without any help. The game story also was set out so that the players learns it himself and discovers what the story behind this game was.

Gameplay:

Limbo is set out to look as a haunted environment with a boy running through carrying out different challenges. The player controls the boy throughout the whole game. The boy could jump, pull objects and climb ropes. All these activities help the boy reach to its goal and complete all it levels. There is also another point of the game having a dark background as it hides hazards and monsters. There is no limit of the player dying in this game as once you die you will start from the last encountered checkpoint. There are also many traps in the second half of the game that the player has to be careful of however some of them could be avoided.

Graphics:

The graphics used in this game is to create a haunted pitch. This is why they use dark and grey colours so that the player finds it haunting and scary. The graphics go well with the game as it creates a death pitch. There is also shadows used which also go well with the story of the game. Overall the game uses high quality graphics as everything works well with the game.

Sound:

The sound used in the game goes with the game as it gives a dull atmosphere also the sound effects change when the boy carries out different tasks. The sound makes the player feel that they are in the game as it gives that atmosphere that they are the actual boy. The sound overall is very good as it changes in various tasks.

Conclusion:

I think that limbo is a good game and has a simple story behind it. Even though the game is simple and dulls it still has a meaning behind it. The colours used in the game are not eye catching however create a good atmosphere as they work well with the meaning of the story. The game could be improved by adding different choice characters and more levels. The game could also have different challenges.

Summary:

Overall I think that the game is very good and that the graphics and the sound work well with the game however the game could have more to the story than just the game of having a boy finding his missing sister. However on the whole this game is a good puzzle game and very unique to other games.

Quake Review

Quake

Introduction:

Quake is a shooting video game designed to play as a single and a multiplayer, which was released in 1966 as a first person shooting game including many levels and challenges for the player. As this was a first person game you couldn’t see the person as you was only able to see the weapon.

Story:

The story of the game was based on an unnamed protagonist that was created to stop the enemy quake. The character has to face new challenges in four episodes without dying and reaching to the exit point to move on to the next level. In the four episodes there are 28 separate levels in which the player has to find a slip gate at each beginning level. The objective of the game is to survive throughout all the challenges and move on to the next levels to complete the game.

Gameplay:

There are two gameplays in this game as you can play as a single player or a multiplayer. In the single player you have to discover and get to the exit to move on to the next level. The player finds many challenges in these levels such as shooting monsters and other creatures. Before starting the game the player could choose the difficulty from easy, medium or hard. Choosing from these difficulties depends on what gameplay to play from as they will have different challenges.  The game is divided in four episodes which have 8 levels in each. The controls of the game are very simple as you can use the arrows on the keyboard to move forward and back, space to jump and the control key to shoot. Once the player completes each episode they will return to the start of the level where they will find the new episode which will start the player from scratch.

Graphics:

The graphics used in the game are very basic. As the game only uses objects like weapons, walls, doors. All these are repeated in all the levels throughout the game so nothing has been changed. There are no advanced graphics as in some parts of the game it could get very dark so the player will find it difficult to play. In this case the game could have more colours that will brighten up the game. As you can see in the picture not many colours are used however the graphics does look very hi tech.

Sound:

The sound of the game is very good as it changes the music and the sound effects in each level or each time you do a different activity. The sound also catches the player’s attention as it makes the player feel that they are actually in the game.

Conclusion:

I think the game is very good and it had a decent story behind it. However the game could be improved in many ways as it could have more challenges that the player faces. Also the graphics of the game is very poor so this could be improved as well by adding more colours and textures. The sound of the game goes with the story of the game as the effects and the noises when you kill the monsters sound real. The game also has a multiplayer option which also Is a good option as it allows more than two players compete against each other and play the game with new challenges.

Summary:

Overall I think the game is brilliant, it has many good and bad points as the game has a good sound effect and story however has poor graphics. But on the whole the game is very good as it will not bore the players.

Subway Surfer- Game review

Introduction:

Subway surfer is an endless running game which is available for user to play on IOS, kindle and Android devices. This game is quite similar to an existing one temple run so as a temple run player it was quite easy to pick up on what i needed to do.

Story:

The story line of subway surfer is quite simple misbehaved children characters Jake and Tricky are being chased by a train inspector and his dog as they were caught graffiti on the trains.  So the aim of the game is to out run the inspector and his dog while facing number of obstacles. For example the moving trains. The way the story has been set out enables a user to quickly pick up on what exactly they are meant to do. This game is set out for a user to fail so the goal is to run as much distance as possible while collecting as much coins as possible.

Game play:

With the game play of subway surfer the game starts off with a slow peace enabling a user to figure out exactly what the aim of the game is and how they need to do to get past each obstacles. The game enables user to pick between different characters however it only provides the user with two characters free; Jake and Tricky. The rest of the character would have to be bought with the money collected from playing the game. The game is structured in a way that ensure that the user fails, I really like the way the game has been set out because i motivates the user to keep trying after every time they fail.

Graphics:

The game uses high quality graphics throughout the game. Compare to some other games I have played when the environment or scenery changes so for example with quake the graphics underwater is extremely poor however with subway surfer has high quality throughout the game for example when  the player is under bridge the image is still very clear.

Sounds:

I really like the sounding that has been used in subways surfer. I think that they are creative, adventurous and fit for purpose. It uses an adventurous background theme song which i thought went really well with the game play. One of the sounds used within the game that i really liked was the sound used when the user is collecting coin it remembered me of some child games I used to play. However, I do feel that they could have used more sound for example sounds of an oncoming train would have made things much more realistic.

Overall

To conclude i think that the game was really good as a whole because once i started playing it i couldn’t stop. i like the sounding , graphics and the structure of the game. Otherthan the few suggestions i made on the sound i could not think of anything else to add to make the game better

LIMBO Game Review

LIMBO is a 2D puzzle-platform game that involves a variety of tasks that’s carried out by a young boy who we are not given the name of. Meaning the player would play as the young boy who wakes up in an unknown forest lurking with all kinds of danger on every corner he turns to. The character in the game is on a quest to find his sister, and in order to do so he must search for her and avoid getting killed, which is merely impossible due to the fact that there are a wide range of obstacles that results to the character in the game being brutally killed. As a result the game was indeed very immersive as the player’s only goal was to find the game characters sister by successfully fighting off anything that came in the way; this created a sense of thrill whilst playing the game.

Story
During the game we are not presented with a story line  as it jumps straight into playing the actual game. During the start of the game we are shown the game character as he awakes in a forest, from that moment after he goes on completing various obstacles that he is faced with such as fighting off oversized spiders and so on. Near the end of the game, the boy is then thrown though a pane of glass in which case he is in the same forest.  From awakening he sees a young girl, which could be his sister, which emphasizes the idea that the main story behind this game was so that the boy had to go though many challenges in order to find his sister.

Gameplay
The game is a 2D game that involves players having full control of the game character throughout the game. This is a two dimensional platform game, which consists of the game character being able to roam around in the game word. The player can make the game character do the usual such as: run, jump, climb, push and pull various objects. The controllers that were required to be used whilst playing the game were rather simple and easy to get the hang of as it was more basic than complicated. Having said that, there were minor issues such as some of the controls when pressed was not responding when playing the game. However, after a while it would start working once the game has been refreshed a few times.

Graphics

The graphics in the game were fairly simple and involved graphics that were repeatedly used in many areas throughout the game. Although the game took place in a forest it still became rather dull and what made it worse was the use of Silhouette effect. The close up shots of the game where reasonably quite good but could have been improved to make it better. In comparison, the long distance shots where better as it was clear and understandable as it gives the players a glimpse of the game environment, which created a sense of curiosity and the need to finish the game successfully.

Sound
The sound in the game was quite simple as it played specific sounds that correspond to the game characters movements. So when the protagonist in the game was running or even climbing something, the sound of these movements where played. This did in some ways have a positive impact as it resulted to immersing the players in the games environment, which made the experience more worthwhile.

Conclusion
In conclusion the game really impressive as it was in fact quite immersive as the game was able to draw the player into the game. Players were able to customize its controls which made it a lot more comfortable for the player as they were able to customize it accordingly. Having said that, the game did lack in a few things, which made it predicable making players lose a bit of interest in the game.  However, this was not a major problem as the game did have a positive impact resulting to players downloading the game to play it more than once.

Summary
The game was rather immersive, due to its ability to draw the player into the game.
Limbo was very simple and quite repetitive.
